Dear Friends
As you know I am just back from the Extraordinary Meeting of the General Assembly held over three days in Milton Keynes. At Church Meeting next Sunday I will do my best to give an overview of what took place and the next step of the journey which all of us are on as the United Reformed Church. The word ‘journey’ is significant in the lives of all people and our journey through life as a disciple of Jesus Christ will take us on many pathways. So significant is what it means to be united on that journey. Even my journey from Euston to Milton Keynes by train and back, and the journeys of others at General Assembly who had experienced far more difficult journeys by road because of the weather last Friday, made me realise again the interconnectedness between humanity. On life’s journey we cannot manage on our own. Life is much about team playing and for Christians the sustaining power which we experience by the power of the Holy Spirit through the sometimes very challenging and demanding experiences in life. So I offer a question which was judged to be the top priority question discerned by the entire General Assembly and which we subsequently discussed in small groups. The question is ‘How do we articulate our faith in God and share the Good News?’ So to all of us, including those of us at Church Meeting next Sunday, I pose the question for the fellowship at Gillingham United Reformed Church, ‘How do we articulate our faith in God and share the Good News?’
How we care for God’s world is on an ever increasing world Agenda. We look forward to hearing what Fiona has to share with us within the item on our Church Meeting Agenda. Immediately you might like to know that the Climate Response Team will be at Rochester Eco Hub’s Christmas Eco Fair on Saturday 22nd November from 10 am to 2 pm at Moat House Hall, Crow Lane, Rochester. A free event in which people can chat about all things Climate and find out more about Medway’s new Climate Change Action Plan.
Another opportunity for us all to be informed about is the Repair Café on Saturday 6th December from 10.30 am to 1 pm at Strood Community Hub where ‘volunteer experts are on hand to help make free repairs of broken items including small electrical items, clothes, bikes, toys and crockery’.

ADVENT AND CHRISTMAS SERVICES AND OPPORTUNITIES Advent Sunday Service 30th November at 11 am. 11 am service on Sunday 7th December will include hanging of stars on the Christmas tree in memory of loved ones. Christmas Connect. The annual Medway wide invitation to Carols at KICC Sunday 7th December at 6 pm. 11 am service on Sunday 14th December will include the Nativity with the opportunity to participate. 11 am service on Sunday 21st December will include reception of some of our youth fellowship into Church Membership. Carol service here on Sunday 21st December at 6 pm. Christmas Eve service at 4 pm. Christmas Day service at 10 am. |
